Southland Spaces and Places Strategy
We worked collaboratively with local, regional and national organisations to review the previous spaces and places strategy.
The refreshed strategy provides high-level direction and a strategic framework, to help guide future decision-making for investment by councils and local funders in play, active recreation and sport spaces and places across Murihiku Southland. It is focussed on the key challenges, opportunities, desired future outcomes and initial priorities for spaces and places across the region. It also provides good practice case studies of successful community partnerships to help other community groups to understand the possibilities partnerships can bring.
Each of the collaborative partners has adopted the strategy through their individual decision-making processes. Active Southland is the “facilitator” of the plan, working with the Regional Advisory Group and community organisations to support and enable the implementation of the strategy over time.
The collaborative approach, working with a motivated and informed Regional Advisory Group, Māori Advisory Group and community groups ensured that the strategy project reflected local issues and needs. It was delivered on time, enabling it to help inform council long-term plan processes.
